Career Academy Update

The Edgeley Public School, in partnership with the Southeast Regional Career and Technical Education Center (SRCTC), is moving forward with the construction on the new Career Academy. The Career Academy will be located just to the east of Edgeley Public School. The construction will begin on the more than 11 thousand square foot project in December of 2023 with the anticipated completion in time to start school in the Fall of 2024.

The career academy model, which SRCTC and Edgeley Public School embrace, has consistently proven to be transformative in addressing workforce needs in various communities. This cooperation allows you to enroll in classes and enjoy educational opportunities that may not be possible by a school alone. Career and Technical Education classes can provide you with job entry skills, the background you need to succeed in a wide variety of related occupations, and the knowledge to go on for more education and training at a junior college, college, university, or technical college.

This building includes lab spaces for Automotive Technology, Animal Science, Agriculture Education & Engineering (Woods & Metals), Metal Fabrication, Culinary Arts, along with classroom space for Health-Related Careers and Agriculture. This career academy will allow Edgeley Public School to expand current class offerings and to continue to implement the industry’s best technology and standards. In addition to benefiting students, this building will also enhance community resources by creating an up-to-date gathering space for community activities.

The project is moving forwarded with the confirmation of a $2.3 million grant awarded to SRCTC. Furthermore, we are accepting donations throughout the greater community of private, corporate, alumni, and municipal donors, which will underscore the widespread support for this academy. Please see page 2 of this newsletter regarding the tiered levels of financial support.
